Preparatory body for future world court adopts guiding texts on evidence
and crimes
3 July -- The
Preparatory Commission for the prospective International Criminal
Court
met its 30 June deadline for finalizing operational details of the Statute
necessary for the Court's eventual functioning, as it concluded its three-week
session at United
Nations Headquarters in New York.
12.06.00 - UNHQ, New York. The Preparatory Commission of the
International Criminal Court (ICC) starts today its final session
to conclude the Rules of Procedure and the Elements of Crime and continue
discussions on the definition of the crime of Aggression, the eventual
4th core crime of the ICC jurisdiction. Canadian Ambassador Philippe Kirsch
opened the plenary stating that this is going to be an exceptionally important
session. Portugal
took the floor on behalf of the European Union, to reiterate the strong
committee of European States, to rapidly bringing into being the permanent
Court. Since the end of the March negotiations, Belize, Tajikistan, Iceland,
Venezuela and France have ratified.
Notes on the Intersessional meeting
of the PrepComm for the ICC, convened by the Institute of Higher Studies
in Criminal Sciences at the invitation of the Government of Italy in Siracusa,
Italy. The Intersessional addressed pending issues with regard to the
Elements of Crimes.
