Moscow, February 23, 2005. Over two hundred people took part today in the afternoon in the demonstration in Lubyanskaya square in support of the peace plan, put forward two years ago by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Ilyas Akhmadov. The plan provides transfer of all military and civilian power in Chechnya to a specially established interim UN administration and simultaneous disarmament of all Chechen formations and withdrawal from the republic of all Russian forces. The demonstration timed to the 61-st anniversary of the Chechen genocide - Stalin deportation of Chechens and Ingushs in 1944 - was organized by the Transnational Radical Party and the movement "Russian Radicals" with support of the Civil Freedoms Foundation.
The rally near the Solovensky stone - a memorial to the victims of Stalin repressions, was conducted by the secretary of the "Russian Radicals" Nikolaj Khramov. Following people spoke at the rally: leader of the Democratic Union, publicist and former political prisoner Valeria Novodvorskaya, editor-in- chief of the human rights news agency Alexander Podrabinek, head of the Moscow branch of the youth movement "Idushchiye bez Putina" Roman Dobrokhotov, activist of the Committee for Anti-war Actions Elena Batenkova and others.
During the demonstration over 80 new signatures were collected under the initiated by the TRP international appeal "For an interim UN administration in Chechnya", addressed to the Secretary general of the United Nations, and to the heads of the states and governments of the countries - members of the United Nations. In total, as of today over 36,5 thousand citizens from 125 countries of the world signed this appeal; collection of signatures proceeds on the sites www.radicalparty.org and www.radikaly.ru.
